Wheeling again in May?

It rained solid the whole drive up and was raining when we headed out. Just two trucks, myself and Vince (my personal trail guide and spirit animal) with Andy and his father riding with Vince. We headed out to explore part of the part I haven't been to previously. I'm not sure what the name is, but you cross the main entrance road to access the trails. Many things appeared brand new or under construction and there were even a couple of what looked like active mine sites that we passed. Andy was our navigator for the day and the plan was to explore some new ground.

Not many people out fist thing, just a big group of Jeeps and some mixed vehicles that were there for the Off Road Consulting course.

The familiar site of following @VBRoamer out to the trails.

Just some random shots I could get while driving. Vince moves quick on the trails ... mental note to talk to him about stopping for an occasional poser pic.

As I said, it was quite wet out and there were puddles everywhere. I can't help myself, I like driving through them. Vince would usually navigate the edges and I would go through the centers. That almost came back to bite me as I finally found a two tiered hole that I managed to accidentally straddle the two tiers and found myself leaning a good bit. Skinny pedaled my way out the other side and had a moment of pucker, but crisis avoided.

Shortly after that, Vince came to a large water puddle that looked a lot like all the others. He drove in and it just kept getting deeper. He made it about 3/4 of the way across and was sliders deep in mud. I was picking my way around the outskirts to pull him out, but in typical been there, done that fashion, he turned on the lockers, sawed on the wheel a bit and managed to pop out the far side.

I didn't get a pic while he was in the hole, but this was shortly after that.

All in all a solid day and well worth getting out on the trails. On another positive note, seems all the new parts and rubber I recently had installed on the front end paid off. Truck feels solid again and tracks well on the highway. Andy should have the info on our trails and route traveled. I'm already looking forward to getting out in June.

That puddle proved to be the most exciting 10 seconds of the day. After driving into the puddle I soon came to recognize that there was no bottom to that muck, not a good feeling. Thoughts of exiting the truck in the middle of the puddle and walking over to Chris's winch line ... and back ... ran through my head. Can't tell you how excited I was when the truck started to rise in all that muck and make its way to the shore.

We covered close to 20 miles. Insane!
The western reserve is simply too big. There is a mine in the middle blocking access to many of the easy fast roads in and out . It would be great they took a dozer down one to make it flat and wide. You spend all day getting in and back out. Luckily for me there isn't much of interest over there. But it would be nice to have time to see the terrain.

The Western reserve has so much potential but it's just so spread out. We were up there last month as well on the western reserve and ran blacks and reds. A lot of driving over there to get anywhere but it was a nice change, I'm grow bored of hitting the eastern reserve all the time.
