4" back spacing works well with these rigs. That's what I have on my '88, and it's the same suspension/axles as your '93.

Anything less than 4" and the tires start sticking out noticeably. You'll find that most aftermarket wheels listed for these rigs only have 3.5 " or 3.75" of back spacing.

I think stock is 5" or 5.5".

None of these are great wheel pictures, but it might help you out.

Here's a shot of my '94 when I stuck these tires/wheels on it just for one trip. They are 32X10.50 Swampers on 15x8 with 3.75" of back space:

And here's a really old pic of my '88, with 31x10.50 mudders on 15x7 with 3.75 back space:

And lastly, here is my '88 with 36x12.50 on 15x8 with 4" back space:

Is it lifted? Some lifts limit the max BS to 3.75"

Anyone know what backspacing is needed for any 83 mini 4x4?

An 83 mini with stock brakes can accept a wide range of backspacing. When it comes to putting v6 calipers and LC rotors on you'll probably want to be about 3 inch backspace or so.

IFS lifts require 3.75 backspacing because otherwise your TRES or ball joints?? I dont know some IFS stuff will dig into your tires and cause immediate problems if you can even get the tire on.

I'd go with an 8 inch wheel and 3.75 backspacing. Do your really want to pay for new wheels and tires and not gain a little stability and width? Not to mention everyone knows tires look cool sticking out past the fenders :bounce2:
