Can you remove the wheel arches and brackets completely? I have a KZJ78 with wheel arches in rough shape. I know that there are sheet metal/pop rivet brackets under them. Any reason you can't just delete them, brackets and all?

I'm thinking of just filling the holes with black pop rivets.
That probably would work too
