I Saw this Landcruiser at a small lot near my place, but there is no sticker or any kind of information other than what i could get off the vehicle. Obviously imported and guessing from Japan due to the bumper sticker in Japanese. 86,000 kms and looks to be in great shape.
My question to all you people that know a hell of a lot more than i do is, What year is this model and what is a fair price in Canadian dollars?

Thanks, and any addtional info would be appreciated...

It has the early year wheels, aluminum running boards...

'92 and up maybe? I know those are not the original fender flares  and from the pic i can tell it's 50mm wider than '94-'97 OEM fender flares.

If it were a North American model, I could say with some certainty that it was either a '91 or '92, due to the 15" wheels and lack of sombrero on the grill. Probably worth more than a local Cruiser, with the factory winch, clear light lenses, JDM headlights, body mouldings, swing-out tire carrier, and hood ornament. However, since it obviously isn't an NA model (or has been extensively converted) I have no idea. Diesel?

those are 15" wheels. The 15s will not fit on a FZJ80 without modifications.

I say wiht 99% certainty that it's either a 91 or 92 FJ80.

with the OEM tire swing, it's not a US Market 80 series.

91-92

which lot in calgary did you see this truck at? Bonnybrook? Canyon Medows?

Interesting find.
With all those international options is it a gaser or diesel?
Definitely 91-94

Brazenhead,
It's a VX which was the top JDM version. Has the OEM winch, curtains, and probably has the fridge in the center console. Probably a 91-92 but it appears to be in very good condition. That's only 56k miles.

It must have been at least 15 years (to month) when imported, so that makes it a '90 or '91.

Those pretty headlamps with the yellow reflector in the inner side fogs have the wrong light pattern for North America, and are not DOT or SAE approved and must be swapped out to pass a thorough Alberta out of province inspection.

No "turbo" badge on the front grille, "WAGON" decal on the rear side instead of "turbo" decal, relatively small exhaust pipe, and sliding rear windows: make me think that it is not a diesel.

For price, find the price of similar LX450s, add some for a winch, and subtract lots for the RHD (not becuase RHD is bad, but becuase it will cost you more for RHD specific parts, will not be as easy to resell, there will be expenses to get it to comply with Alberta regs, and you will always be a target for vehicle inspection officers), and add a little if you like the uniqueness of a RHD gasser.

If you become serious in buying a JDM Cruiser, I'd suggest that you carefully include in the purchase agreement clauses that make the seller responsible for ensuring that the vehicle meets all provincial regulations - this one appears not to.

In BC, even with a recent and valid inspection, you can still be pulled over by the police or CVSE (commecial vehicle safety enforcement) and ordered to redo the inspection at your cost if they "think" you have a safety issue or may not comply with the regulations. I believe it is the same in Alberta.

It's actually at a small lot in Lethbridge, and it's a 1990, he's got two that just came off the boat a week ago. If your interested check out his web site @ missionmotors.ca

Thanks Steve, I called and talked to the seller, he assured me that everything would be up to spec before the buyer took possesion, apparently there are 2 of these beauties at his lot. The one in the picture is selling for 14,900 with 87,000 original kms, and the other is selling for 14,500 with 110,000 original kms. Both are RHD.

Be careful with the mileage reading, sometimes the reading on the imported rig is much lower than the actual mileage on paper (something similar to title). Not sure if the dealer will show you that paper.

I've had similar thoughts. Maybe the odometer has been rolled back to suck in a prospective buyer, although the unit does look pretty clean it could have just been well cared for. Regardless i would not buy anything without taking a very close look. I called my Toyota guy at the local dealer and was told that if i was to buy this to make sure i got signed documents by the inspection tech in case anything was to arise that would bite me in the ass.

the mileage is probably correct, but remember that japanese roads are not like north american ones. lots of stop and go for tolls on the highways, crawling at 5mph on the city streets, etc. 50K jpn miles is like 150K NA miles in my books. besides, for $15k, you could buy a fully loaded lx450 with $ left over for goodies.

That may be true but we're talking Canadian dollars, and i'm sure i can bargain with the guy.

Not that you asked, but personally I would not spend that kind of money on a 4.0L gasser, even with rear air and center console fridge (IIRC, standard on the earlier VX Limited models).

Anyway, if you don't care that it's petrol and it's not going to be tearing up the pavement, then go for it! ;)
