What stock size tires would you buy.

285's are nowhere close to rubbing. Buy 'em. They work better and look better. I've got 40,000+ on my revos and have been very satisfied. I guess the only downside would be not taking advantage of them if you only use your LC for mass transoportation on highways, but most everybody likes to "use" their land cruiser once in a while! :D

The correct size for 16" are 275x70 16, for 17" it is 275x65 17 and for 18" it is 285x60 18. While most manufactures make tyres in these sizes I have only tried Bridgestone which make some good tyres in all these sizes and so does Dunlop.
Hope this helps.

Stock and correct are not necessarily the same. ;)

Good info on the other :princess: wheel sizes stock tires though.

hey rzpapp...will that size fit with out any modifications at all? I was looking at that exact same tire for my '03.

Michelin Cross Terrains

Recently picked up a set of Cross Terrains at Costco at a decent price with rebate. Had tried them on a rental Ford Exploder this summer and thought they were quiet and competent . My experience on the LC is that they don't feel quite as sure-footed on the LC as the Exploder, but a decent all round all terrain tire. I am curious, has anyone tried the GY Forteras? GY is hyping them all over the NorthEast. Who thinks up these names anyway?

I like the Mickey Cross Terrains, great on-road ride and feel, and pretty good for the dirt fire trails and construction site mud around Western NC. But they are very very soft rubber. I got 14k and 12 months out of my first set, and the 65k warrenty gave me a new set this spring for about $100. We'll see if this second set makes it through the winter.

LT

Steph23, I have not tried it but its only 1.8in (31" vs 32.8") bigger than stock and there looks to be plent of room in the wheel well.

Here is what I got. http://www.accconline.com/CustomerPrograms/ProspectorAT.asp

Tire dealer in town uses them and sells them to all the off road guys in this area. Said with all the sharp rocks in this area that these hold up the best. Plus they come with a warranty covering any problems even if I cut them with a rock, he will replace them. Local guy 2 miles from my house and they will rotate, replace, rebalance for free, until I need a new set. Out the door price 4 tires with all the above $620.00. I tested them up to 80 mph very smooth ride. Guess I will see how they hold-up.

But SWUtah, those aren't available in 275/70R16.... :D

these sizes are correct for the LC 100 when they are built. all gear ratios and speed calabration are based on these sizes as designed by Toyota. The speedo can be changed without much expense or trouble but not so the gear ratios. You can put what you like on and call it stock but there is only one correct size in this case and that is what was designed by Toyota.

Tony,

Who's calling it stock. I call it better than stock. Passenger rated tires on a HEAVY TRUCK? No thanks, I'll not risk my life because some stupid marketing weenie wants a smoother, more quiet ride around town.

I wanted the LT rated tire, plus the thicker sidewall for a tougher tire, when I drive around all the rocks where I live. I don't know how good these tires will be but I quess I will findout? The ones I bought are made by Cooper for American.

SWUtah:

What size did you get? Hope you enjoy 'em. I don't know if anyone on here has a set so you'll have to offer us feedback on them.

As far as stock and correct:

No kidding c-dog! Does one honestly believe the guy that decided to make a rear locker available and the guy who decided to put Michelin LTX M+S's in that size were really on the same page as far as "designing the vehicle" ???? No way. Many folks on here run many different sizes with many different brands and have not had problems related to doing so.

Folks can stick with stock if they want; but don't believe the theory of the vehicle being designed around one precise tire size is a valid reason. It doesn't hold water well when looked into. I'll leave it at that.

I got the 265/75/16 LT size, it's a little larger diameter then the stock 275/70/16's speedo at 70 mph will show 70 and I will be going 70.2 mph so its real close. I have to get my 86 year old mom in and out of this LC plus I didn't want the over sized tires.

I think you are missing the point of my post. the question was about stock tyres. To me stock would imply original, as they come from the factory. People can modify their car all they like and put what ever size they want but the fact is the car was made with a certain size tyre which is the "correct" size as per the tyre size chart that is probably on the door sill on the drivers side of all cars sold in the world today. No one said there was os wasnt problems with running different sizes but if you change the overall diameter of the wheel things will be different to what they were originaly when the vehicle came from the factory. The end result of the design was probably a compromise as I am sure the car companies know that people will modify and use their cars in many different ways for many different reasons. In Australia there are 3 different models of 100 series sold new using tyres ranging from 205 /70 /16 to 275/65/17

Changed my mind from the BFG... I like the Toyo Open Country MT 33x12.50R18 (33" x 12.7") looks like they should fit with the factory suspension .... and will fill the wheel wells nicely. Anyone try this size...?

BTW: Stock on mine is Bridgstone Dueler HT 275/60R18 (31"x10.7")

Toyo recommends at least an 8.5" wheel but it should still work fine. You might have a tough time finding those tires in that size. If you do, let me know and I'll dig up the info on my tire dealer. The set he found me might have been the only set in the country.

Yeah I saw the thread with your 35-inchers, I'm waiting for the pictures of the front whne you get the spacers.... which leads me to question. Will I need the spacers with the 33"... ?

Let you know when I find them.

Looks like they like the tires to be 31" or less over in OZ. Why do you think you guys use smaller tires? I know that in OZ you guys do more to use the potential of the LC off road then anywhere else in the world. Do you find that the LC performs better off road with smaller tires? Just wondering since there seems to be a different approach to the same desired result??
