Hey all,
Im continuously trying to expand my product line, and am now getting into the Toyota scene a little bit. Ive asked on a couple other boards, but thought Id do so here as well. What kind of products would you like to see for our trucks?
I personally own a '94 single cab, 22RE, 5-speed, and use it as my daily driver. So...I have that to use for mock-up, and am sure I could talk some local guys into letting me use their truck for mock-up, in exchange for the parts Im designing.
Anyways, lets try to start a list of things that are either not currently for sale, or are way over priced(in your mind anyways). Im open to anything and everything. I have access to Solidworks, lasers, lathes, mills, welders, etc etc.
Thanks in advance and hopefully this can benefit the both of us!

plastic chroming ...

I have built many trucks , and it only seems you can get "quality" chrome in Japan ..

I'd be first in line .. with a company backing for support !!

.

complete lifts for 500 $ for automatics and bumpers like the one from the movie "over the top" on that big rig and custom bumpers for the rear with completely useable reese hitches built in and of course back seat elimanators for dxl models

hahaha!!!

maybe he can get you that extra 15 horse chrome!! :flipoff2:

Well engineered under body armor. Should have air holes and also not collect dirt and water above it. Think about where water would drain off it and have it also flush away any dirt with it.

Metal replacement fenders for moderate lift and large tires.

an inexpensive roof rack.

Snorkel for the '89 to '95.5 22RE regular and extended cab pickup as well as 4runner. Safari only makes one for the 3.0 slow. I'm afraid it may require replacing the bottom of the airbox to get a good water tight seal.

Good ideas guys! Funny thing is I saw a Toyota today with a roof basket on it. Looked pretty cool and got my mind rolling on the idea. Not sure how you would attach it though. Any ideas?
As for the under armor...that should be fairly simple. I was going to work on a transfer case crossmember, but figured most guys had clocked cases and since I dont and Id use my truck for mock up, it wouldnt benefit alot of the guys out there. Is this not true?
What else under the truck in your opinions need armor? Just throw ideas out there and Ill put them on the list of ideas to toss around.
Thanks a bunch!

Rear bumpers other than your typical tubular design. People like to accesorize their trucks with gas cans/water cans/jacks/etc. It's hard finding much for the 1989 to 1994 trucks. I think a bed rack with a surry top would be really cool. A rack that could hold cans, a jack, etc., and then have a canvas top on it.

how about some flat bed kits that come alittle more complete not just tubing like the other ones. maybe some tube doors that come with latches. i dont know where your located but you can use my rig as ginny pig heres a picture ofmy junk

Thanks guys. A plate style rear bumper is in the works. Check out the thread on the front bumper Im doing, and it will give you an idea. Ummm...a canvas top deal would be pretty cool. Could even make it out of aluminum so its lightweight and rust proof. Any pictures of something like this on any style truck?
Flat bed kits would be interesting. Honestly, fairly simple. My problem is I try to satisfy everyone, and with something that is that big, and "eye catching", I would think everyone would want something different. Maybe Ill doodle a bit in Solidworks and BendTech to see what I can come up with.
Tube doors are ready to be manufactured, including latches. They will be a bit more money than the rest out there, but they will have a normal style latch on them so when you swing them close, they latch, and then a small button to push to release the latch and open the door. All I need is to design the latch mounting bracket.

Keep the ideas coming! My mind is racing now.

I think tube doors are out , and 1/2 doors are in ? .. I duno .. but with local cops hastlin' ... dont wast your coin on tube doors !!

I was actually thinking of making a "DIY Half Door Kit". It would be a template for cutting the doors out, and then a lasered and formed piece of sheetmetal to fill in the top. Wasnt sure if these were really that popular or not though....

A DIY half door kit would be awesome, would be nice if it had a piece to weld in where the door panel would go and have some sort of padded arm rest insert or something.

This would actually be really simple. Ill have to keep an eye out for doors on CL and what not to use as mock-ups. Is there a certain way some people like them cut, rather than another way, or is it the basic, cut down at an angle from both the front and back, and make a flat bottom part to the cutout? How low is an "average" for the cutout?

Thanks!

What would be awesome is an affordable cage to protect the back seat of a 4runner when you are going topless. Preferably one that the hard top can go over. I cant even begin to count the number of people I see wheeling with the top off and back seat passengers with just the stock bar on.

This would be easy as well. All I need is a donor truck to use for mock-up. Once I have the dimensions Ill plug them into BendTech and be ready to roll. Wouldnt most people want a complete cage if they are going to go through the work of putting a "rear" cage in anyways? Just wondering....

I know it sounds weird but the coolest cage I ever saw on a 4runner had the front most hoop about even with the back of the front seat so technically the front was protected..ish but it didnt eat up the front leg space or put the damn pipe across the dash. Just my 2 cents.

an inexpensive roof rack.
how

Something like this? All 1" square tubing. I just drew this up real quick. Dimensions are 44"x29", which would be for the single cab trucks.
Ive been thinking about how to secure it, and came up with a headache rack for the truck, then a couple reciever tubes on the headache rack that this would drop into. For the front, I plan on welding in 2 tabs on each front corner, which a round magnet with a threaded rod on it would extend from. This would lock the from of the basket down, and keep it from bouncing up and down. A good glue and a piece of neoprene will keep the magnet off the paint surface.
Any input or suggestions?
