My favorite GPS update in my 2008 was making a simple mount that lets my iPad cover the screen and run Google Maps. ;) To be honest, I never even look at the built-in GPS, and usually have screen turned off due to its outdated, rudimentary maps.

I truly wish there was a way to do a proper head unit replacement, but the heavy reliance on the unit for so many vehicle functions means it's a pretty complicated affair...

Go to eBay and search. I found one a while back and it worked fine. You can go to the dealer and find which is the latest disk and get one on eBay. Update was fine but it takes a bit of diligence to make sure you pick the right one.

Yea it seems like there is not a update for cruiser after 2011. I do know the map is out of date since my neighborhood is not showing... I've been on eBay and other Toyota oem sites and they all seem not to have anything available.

I updated mine a couple of months ago. Ordered off ebay and the DVD didn't work (2 shipments). Ended up going to the dealer. My understanding is this is the last DVD update. You specify East or West. I think this is the version. Toyota Navigation DVD Update VER 15.1(86271-GEN06-15)

Does anyone know what the file name might be for the software update? I'm curious to see if you can download it somewhere other than the dealer.

I don't think the process is as simple as that :bang:

The dealer needs 3 parts of the puzzle to effect a software update on the 2013 LC:

- Update license code purchased by the owner
- TechStream computer
- "Dongle" to transfer update data to the vehicle

After the owner purchases the update license, the dealer plugs the dongle into their TechStream computer and enters the update license number (along with other vehicle/NAV parameters) and transfers the software update file to the dongle. The "loaded" dongle is then plugged into the USB port on the vehicle and the update starts.

I'd love to believe that any owner could download a file onto a thumb drive, plug it into the vehicle's USB port and update the NAV software, but ... I don't believe that is possible :crybaby:

I'll tell you what I would like to see!!! A mapping setup like the Tesla S, one that is real time (as google maps is). Or as you say just run your phone or iPad. Though I have never thought of putting it over the screen of the head unit, I might have to try that.

I do just that my iPad when on longer road trips. I used the hard-case portion of an old case...then added a velcro strip to the flat spot in front of the clock. Next...I used heavy black duct tape to connect the opposite velcro to make a "flap" of velcro. I can then hang the iPad directly over the screen. When I want the back-up camera or other head unit functions, I simply flip the iPad up (which still stays connected to the velcro)...then flip it back down when done. Works a charm. If you stray from cell coverage, it's OK because Google Maps now lets you download entire areas for continued map drawing when off-network.

I bought this one you linked to and although it says it is supposed to work- no dice on my 2008. The old one has U32 and it one disc. HMMM Here is a pick of the old one.

I ordered an update off eBay for my 2009. It didn't work, so the vendor sent me a second disc. That didn't work either, so the seller refunded my money. Wish I knew an eBay vendor whose update works.
