What do you use for bins?

Lowenbrau,
Those plastic bins you posted are the really heavy duty.
If look around you will see that about every store uses them to restock small items. The lids nest together.
I used to work with geologists that went through bins constantly until they finally settled on those nesting lid bins. Of course they were using them to move rocks.

I was looking for some tough bins a few months ago and found the Conitco SUV Utility Box. Tough as hell. And I also found out that these are the "trunks" our troops use over in Iraq. I was watching Off To War and each member of the documentary had one to stash their personals. Contico makes a few different sizes.
They are made of very tough, molded foam and have cup holders, metal-rod hinges, and pad lock holes.

I bought one of these this past weekend. Very tough. I'd recommend it as well -- the Contico SUV box. Thanks for the tip LoveTractor!

I use the storm case units:

I use:

One iM2400 for camera gear
Two iM2720's for recovery and support equipment stored under the platform
One iM2950 for storage in the Chaser trailer or for permanent support gear storage

I think maybe this is what I'm looking for in addition to some totally water tight boxes and a wanigan

We can get these from Kolby (Beth's X) in Calgary, I believe. We used them in the work trucks, in the bed, under the deck on a roll out. But, they sucked because they weren't water proof and dirt and dust got into them easily. They didn't snap in the frigid temps though. They also come in a variety of sizes.

I like these army x-ray boxes (11"H X 20"L X 32"L) they are aluminium so they don't weigh any more than a similar size plastic box. They are 100% water dust proof. Two will fit between the wheel wells of my fj40. They are around $30 which compares to plastic. I plan to remove all but four of the 10 latches, they are a PITA.

I also like dry bags, I keep my dud's and sleeping bag in them. They are nice to squish into those oddball sized spaces that would otherwise be wasted.

Dad has a couple of these we could swindle...

Yeah but I'm thinking that there shouldn't be to much muck and mire under the deck. Maybe the odd dunking in the water but even then the water would have to be 10" higher than the floor before they'd fill up. We've pretty much got a disaster happening if it gets that deep. Flowing over the tranny tunnel is another story. :D

I've been making an offer on those army aluminum cases.

My logic is, in a disaster I will really need the extra supplies I have along, the last thing I need is for them getting soaked, strewn down the trail or dirty.
Another advantage the army med boxes have is they don't taper down like all the stacking type bins, no wasted space.

What I'm trying to figure out is how to adapt the latches I take off to use as quick release hold downs.
