What camp stove do you use?

Original design MSR backpacking stove, or late '60s vintage Coleman 2 burner. Both use white gas. Both will heat a wok fine, but you need a support ring for the MSR.

I have a bunch of old coleman white gas stoves like Kurt's, but the MSR whisperlite is used much more since 80% of the time I only need to heat water. It is so compact I usually just skip packing a stove and taking food that would need cooking. I graze more than make proper meals on trips.

I *really* want a 12v toaster oven.. but what I've seen 1st hand so far is pretty cheezy. Would be in heaven with the Waeco fridge freezing stuff at the bottom and the toaster oven just heating it up! (pathetic I know...).

Get a couple 100Amp hour Group 31 deep cycle batteries, a large inverter, and use your toaster oven and microwave...:grinpimp: Ya might want a bigger alternator to recharge them faster.

Why waste battery on lost efficiency in an inverter when you can just get a 12v oven cheaply?
I have yet to hear of a honest good review of a 12VDC powered toaster oven.

Let's say you want a 750W oven, small for a toaster oven. That is over 60 Amps that the power cord needs to handle at 12VDC. That current would never work going through a car cigarette lighter plug. They usually max out at 10 Amps.

Coleman 2 burner propane....the new one has electric start and is much nicer but my 15 year old model still goes strong and i love the 5lb cylinders rather than messing with stove fuel like the old days....:D:D

I use my jetboil setup when the GF doesn't come along

Standard Coleman 2 burner stove when i have company

I'm a fan of white gas because it burns hot even in the cold at high altitude and because it can share fuel with the truck (unleaded). I carry either a Coleman multi-fuel dual burner stove or an MSR XGK II depending on how many people I'm cooking for. Both are bomb proof in any weather and at any temperature. The Coleman has an easily adjustable flame and is easy to cook with. The XGK II is either on or off and is really only good for melting snow/boiling water.

Don't pump as much pressure into the SIG bottle. Then you can get it to simmer. Also a fine touch on the fuel valve can get it to simmer.

My wife just brought home one of these:
C-OVEN Outdoor Camp Oven 2 Burner Range And Stove - Camp Chef

Haven't tried it. Initially I thougth "are you kidding?" But, if it get's her out of the house, and makes camping enjoyable for her, then so be it. I'll stick with my MSR Whisperlite.

There pretty good,
i use mine today for cooking a lasagna , 350 f /175 c for 1 hr .
Rather have the heat outside now.

We used a Brunton Gannett 2 burner on our Labrador trip last fall with an adapter hose and a 20lb propane tank. Worked great. We also had a small butane we used for a quick roadside mug up. I have used Coleman white gas stoves extensively and for cold weather they outperform propane and butane.
In very cold weather butane won't produce enough btus to burn your hands. The Cdn military is still using Coleman 2 burner stoves and 2 mantle lanterns because they will work at -40.

1950 vintage Coleman 3 burner converted to propane. Never let my Dad down or me and I imagine my kids won't be let down either

stove

I hike as much as I can whenever and wherever I can. I prefer the MSR Whisperlite when I go with a buddy, but alone I like the Optimus Crux lite.
Great stoves and fuel is easy to find.

I use a coleman 2 burner/propane canister stove when car camping and my whisperlight when I am backpacking.

stove choice

It mainly depends on how many people you have, how much space you have, and what you are doing.

For "family" or truck camping where everything will be kept in a vehicle, then the Coleman dual-fuel 3-burner stove works well. The 2-burners are OK, but if you have more than one person, you end up waiting for your coffee to boil and end up eating your eggs, bacon, etc. separately. I carry a propane converter (about $10 anywhere) so I can use disposable propane bottles if needed. I like the idea of being able to use unleaded fuel in my stove and lanterns. The "Coleman" fuel or white gas is now close to $9.00 a gallon!

The Jetboil and MSR stoves are great, but they are primarily for heating water fast to use for dehydrated foods. You can use them under frying pans, but you will be cooking awhile if you have big meals or are cooking for a lot of people. They are cool for backpackers, but if you have the space, why bother? They are expensive too.

We were in the outfitting business, and I've been camping out since I was a kid. I'm picky with my gear. :)

I have a single burner that screws onto a small propane tank. My wife gets a whole bunch of half-used ones from work.
