Aside from the torrential rain that hit seconds after I mixed the first pot of primer, I would say it went well. The roof is in primer now. When I pulled the windshield the bottom section had a lot of rust pitting. That got sandblasted out and is now primed. My dad came by today and helped out ton! I am glad we built the rest of the tent now. I would post a pic of the primer but I am soaked...

Aside from flat out missing a section in the middle of the roof when the clear went on, the roof looks amazing. I'll post up some daylight pics of the roof later today.

Beautiful work

I'm starting to feel a bit :hillbilly:

Hey treeroot, did you notice a difference in road noise from using the B-Quiet Ultimate? I am planning on dropping my headliner and figure it would be a good time to cut down on some noise.

Heck yes I did! The doors made the biggest improvement.

One observation after taking out the sun roof assembly is that the 80 roof is really really flimsy!! It would take about 25lbs to crease the roof just behind the sunroof hole.

Confirmed! Ironically, considering the thread and this comment - when I had mine at the Line-X shop so I could solve this issue that way (Line-X stripes), the tech placed his knee on my roof, leaning on it as he worked. I watched as my roof sagged a bit before asking him to kindly take his weight off  He did ... a small conference ensued between him and the owners, and when they came out to talk to me the said two things - 1) Promise not to tell a soul about the damage .. and 2) The job is free  They have since closed shop and left town, otherwise I would have kept that promise.

Anyway the roof is indeed flimsy as a 1978 can of coke...

Treeroot, amazing job man! (my way was cheaper though! :flipoff2:)

Root.. how did you line the doors with the sound dampening stuff? would you say the doors are worth doing even if the roof isnt done?

I removed the door panels, glass, and window bits. There is a pretty big opening you can wedge your arm into and feed the material through the top. I like that the doors close like a luxo car now instead of feeling light and not shutting with authority.

This is exactly want I want to do....can you or anyone help out with the sunroof pan removal process, or do you think the front holes over the pan can be welded shut from the top only since the sunroof assembly is in the way?

I have the rack off and headliner out...but the sunroof has me perplexed.

Unbolt the pan from the inside (with help if possible). Note the shims that are between the pan and the roof as these align the sunroof in the hole. It all drops down in one piece and only weighs about 55 to 75 pounds.
