Weird buzz/crackling noise coming from driver front dash when in drive and stopped

This is really odd. Just started noticing this.
When in drive and at a light, stopped, I hear a buzzing/crackling sound coming from the left front behind the dash. When I got into Park/Reverse/Natural it goes away.

Any thoughts?

I've had this pop up from time to time and just about the time I get annoyed enough to take it apart, it stops. So, I'm no help.

not true... big help... good to know I am not alone.. if I find the issue I’ll be sure to report back.

100's often do something like this - it's the plastic engine cover in them. A vibrating noise when stopped in drive. Just a thought.

I had a similar symptom after a couple of hundred km’s of dusty gravel roads. It seemed to go away after returning to pavement and I figured that it was dust accumulating “somewhere” and then it shook out and I haven’t noticed it since.
