Way confused on a LX450 or FZJ80 Purchase...

Two years of lurking, eh! :flipoff2: Welcome, Jonb.

Yeah, I've had good luck with cars.com as well. I was able to find two cars from two small towns. The sellers never didn't know the kind of exposure they were getting till I showed up from as much as 3 hours away.

Buy a suburban then....

Colorado Cruiser

Sent you an email. I might be able to help you out if you're still looking for someone to check out the Denver/Boulder cruiser you mentioned earlier.

Thanks for the welcome eh, hoser. 2 years ago I started jonesing for an fzj80 and got kinda side tracked by buying a bj70 (being a diesel freak). The 70 was too short for my purpose so I'm revisiting the 80 series.
Okay, thats it, 2 years worth of posts in one day. No wonder I'm tired!

Back to the question.. Lexus or Toyota. I ended up going with the LX450. It was mainly due to it being a lower price, being in good condition, and not having been off-roaded. I found a '96 with 120k miles for $11.500. I think it's a pretty good deal--my wife has yet to see the light though going from a '03 low mileage Frontier to a '96 "high mile" "gas guzzler"... she will see the light.. believe you me.. she will see the light

Oh yeah.. it took me five and a half months to find mine.. then again I started in the "wrong area" looking at FJ60s... something I actually still wouldn't mind getting =)

I think by the time all is said and done I'll own a 60 too but first I'll stick to the 80. Thanks for the offer Jenny, the one I found I think I'm going to get unless the dealer hands me an crazy blow and the rig just sucks. I've decided a lower priced one that I could put tires and a lift and stuff on would make me happier so we'll see.

It's TOUGH finding the right rig at a fair price....

Well, cars.com is a great place, but there is one problem there. It takes a few days for the ad to appear on cars.com after the ad has been placed in newspaper.

Sonoran,
I think that I talked to you on the phone. It might be worth the trip to come up to Queen Creek. I have my LX with all the custom audio and video stuff, and my neighbor has a 91LC with lockers, 4in lift, and 33s. He is asking 8k. We are literally 2 houses apart.

interesting...
after reading the above I checked cars.com and autotrader again. I was surprised at the prices. Is it possible that the 80s are going up in value?

It always seems like SUV and Sports car prices go up in the warmer months.

Well, keep in mind the prices on these things dropped quite a bit over the last year in a half (too low for what they are IMO), so there may be a little bit of a market correction going on. For what you get, you won't find a better value for your dollars.

No, that is not possible. Nothing I buy goes up in value.

If I had sold my 80, then yes - they could be going up. But I still have mine, so they are actually going down...guaranteed! :D

Being patient is the key. Between me and my wife, my mother and father and brother in law, none of us have cars that were purchased locally. We took our time and waited for the right one to come along. I boughy my FJ62 in Phoenix, my wifes FZJ80 in Oklahoma, my brother got his 62 in Dallas and my father got his 62 in NY and my mothers FZJ80 came from FL. So just be patient and definitely willing to travel.
