My 88 mini with 22RE let me down today, we had flooding here and driving home I had water coming up to the hood a few times. After the second deep water hole I had to dry out the distributor to get home.
Any suggestions on waterproofing the dizzy? Is the Toyota cap sealed any better than aftermarket junk? Never really had this trouble with my 71 LC but now that I have moved up to this almost new truck I guess I will have to be more careful about getting wet.

The rubber distributer cap actually does a rather good job IMO and experience however I would consider doing a custom snorkel there are quite a few links here is one: Project Breathe Easy - Trucks 4x4 @ Off-Road.com

My advise just take it slow, your alternator will probably fail first, and if you get into the real deep stuff you may lock up your engine. Any time I go through the water I also check my differentials, I am rather anal about keeping water out of everything.

i think this was covered less than a week ago too...

damn i aint clickin threads, tryin to be a tight ass with tellin these guys to search!

what you should do there nail bender is invest in an electric fan if you plan on doin lots of water crossing. when any fan is spinnin its gonna force water into the cap.

with the electric fan, you can wire it to a switch and kill it when crossin the water

also
extending the breather on the cap, to a place where is not far away, but with a loop in it to trap water. when the cap is all hot, soon as it gets cold, it thermally contracts and dwawn in air, along with water, unless you do this.

also
would be a good idea to take it off and slap in a bunch of black RTV in there.

a can of WaterDisplacing40Th attempt is a good thing to have around
