I have heard people say they don't have much range. One guy installed an aftermarket Key bob controller and said it has way more range than the Warn unit. 15 feet vrs. 100 feet

I would be concerned about RF interference and loss of battery power on the remote at a bad time. I'm staying wired for now as I can't alway get my car alarm remote to work in all places at all times. And a winch remote is likely to be forgotten about until you really need it.
