Hi all-

I have a '81 bj42. The 4sp tranny died. I am looking for a 5sp to make a conversion with. Anyone have one to get rid of?

I have a 5-speed attached to a 3B in a BJ60 I am parting out. I'm definitely selling the engine, and am thinking about selling the H55 and the transfer behind it as a package. I might consider selling the parts individually too, if I can find buyers. The motor runs strong, with a good 150,000 on a rebuild. The transmission shifts smoothly as far as I can tell. I don't know the condition of the clutch, but is was free of any abnormalities, shuddering, etc, when I drove it.

The engine has some sort of oil leak - I'm not sure from where it originates or if it continues to weep, but there is a lot of black oily crud all over the drivetrain. The sump pan looks relatively unscarred. The engine was well-maintained.

The EDIC system is on the motor but is disconnected. The injector pump is in perfect condition. Currently the drivetrain is still in place, and I plan to pull it soon. I have removed the front fender assemblies, so I can take some clear photos of the drivetrain if you like.

What sort of money were you looking to spend? I would want $3500 for the drivetrain package, as is, including speedo cable, any hoses or ancillaries you may need. Any subsections of that package, like the 5 speed transmission that you may be interested in, just make me a decent offer and go from there.

I had been thinking of taking the H55 off the 3B and fitting it to my 2H motor, but to do so would involve a complete strip down to change input shafts, and a few other hassles, so I'm thinking of alternative plans at the moment, inccluding selling it to fund the purchase of the correct 5-speed tranny for my engine.

Give me a shout.

Cheers,

Chris

If the H55 transmission is from a BJ42, BJ45 or BJ47 I am interested in it regardless of condition. It would be even better if someone had a top-cover from a blown H55. I was told that the H55 top cover for a BJ42 is p/n : 33102-60090

Thanks,
Eric

The BJ60 and the BJ42 use different top covers. The top cover on the tranny from a BJ60 would put the shifter too far back.
