Just got my tag and tax renewals from the State of Kansas :eek::eek:.

Crap, $450 for the Dodge and Debi's Gran Prix (already paid the trailer). Not sure if it's legal or not to use someone elses addy (doubt that it is) but it sure seems stupid to pay $450 or a couple months then wait 6 months for the refund after we move.

Just one more thing I won't miss about this state.

Just a little history about how jacked up Kansas' vehicle taxes are; You can own a $300K classic car and pay $20 a year or a $10K new car and pay and $250 a year..... it's nuts.

Just venting.......

Not sure if it's legal or not to use someone elses addy (doubt that it is) ...

I just happen to have some carnal knowledge of this that I'll share this mornin'. :grinpimp:

Yes ... it's illegal.

The most common reason for usin' an addy in another state is to avoid state income tax (TX and FL lead the way for "imaginary" residents). Your home state won't like this. A primary method to try to establish residency in a tax-free state is to finagle a driver's license in that state. A friend with a addy and a bull**** rental lease can get 'er done. But you best not stop there ... 'cause when the cops pull you over they wanna see the Big 3 (license, tags, and insurance) listin' the same addy. But the tags and insurance are easy enuff to pull off once ya got the license.

So now you got the Big 3 squared away ... but your out-of-state tagged vehicles are sittin' in front of the house in the state you actu'lly are livin' in ... whoops. Since most states require you to transfer your out-of-state tags to your real state tags within a few weeks or so ... this is a problem. Might be able to get away with it in a quite residential area but some local police are known to routinely cruise the parking lots of apartment complexes looking for out-of-state tags over too long a legal period.

Hint: I would not attempt this runnin' TX tags while livin' in an apartment complex in either Maryland or California. :grinpimp:

My advise would be to pay for the tags and wait on your refund ...

However, feel free to "move into" The 3X's if'n ya want. After all ... that damn Dodge has been tagged outta here before.
