Anyone thought of hammering out the tailgate to give a little more room for the wagon gear lid?

I have seen where one member cut-and-turned the license plate indentation to face outwards. Not for me, but it has been done. I would think that just cutting the indent out, and re-skinning the tailgate without the indent would look a bit better, though. Decent welding and body skills required for this mod.
