So this is in regards to the W55 in my 91 pickup. Yes, I know this is a 4WD forum, but the same issue could affect the W56.
Leak from output shaft. Replaced seal. Still leaking. Ok, probably excess wear of tailshaft bushing. Swap tailshaft housing from a spare W55 I have. Leak gone. Now, it feels as if it's barely going into 1st and 3rd. Will not go into 5th. My guess is a worn shift lever housing bushing. The slop in it doesn't allow the shift rail to move rearward enough to fully engage 5th. That in combination of an excessively worn shifter seat bushing. I attached a pic of the shift lever housing originally in my 91 W55. I already removed the worn bushing.
Any thoughts or similar experiences?
