VIN Database for JDM(?) Vehicles

Helping a friend run down parts for a diesel. I believe originally produced for JDM, but not sure.

Is there a database I can enter the VIN, to confirm manufacture date, engine, tranny, etc ?

Nope. Manufactured for North America.

the jdm rigs use chassis numbers and they look nothing like our us spec vins.
