Hey everyone,

This question is probably targeted more towards those who live in places without strict emissions, such as Africa, the Middle East and Asia. I’m not looking for thoughts on legalities or ethics, but what will extend the life of the motor.

I know that the exhaust gases are piped in to lower EGT’s and burn un burned fuel, but with all the soot from exhaust gases, and the oily air coming from direct crankcase ventilation tubes, the entire intake system on the 1VD motors gets plugged up within 100k kms. I have both a VDJ200 and VDJ79 and am looking at getting the intake manifold, EGR and so on cleaned up, installing a provent 200 catch can, and doing what I can to limit or completely restrict exhaust gases from entering. From what I’ve read, there are ways to do this in conjunction with a mild ECU remap that will actually improve combustion, lower EGT’s and give a bit more low end torque. I imagine if I removed the OEM exhaust and added a larger one, that would also drop EGT’s.

Here are the options I’m looking at below. Does anyone have experience with this that they can share with me?

1. Partial EGR block, catch can, with a EGT and EGR focused ECU remap
2. Full EGR block, catch can install and ECU remap
3. EGR removal, catch can install, and ECU remap

The remap would be focused primarily on removing the EGR features from the ECU and working to improve combustion and keeping EGT’s low. Not a race map. I tow a lot and work in hot climates deep in the bush. Both vehicles also have manual gearboxes and are GCC spec cruisers with Euro 3 emissions standards, so much easier than the Euro 4/5.

Thanks in advance.
