I have asked around about valve lash and the effects it has on the power of the engine and have yet to get any technical answers. Does anybody here know??

Decreasing the clearance (tightening) opens the valve wider and lets more intake in or exhaust out. Increasing the clearance (loosening) lets less gas in and out.

What effect(s) on the combustion process, if any, are caused by either increasing or decreasing valve lash?

Does a looser exhaust clearance (letting less exhaust escape) dilute the incoming fuel charge, causing less power to be made? Does a tighter exhaust clearance create more torque? etc, etc, etc

Decreasing clearance is early timing... increase is late valve timing... both lead to poor performance...

Valves that run too tight tend to burn prematurely
