value of 1980 FJ40

Im trying to get a good idea of what a 1980 fj40 might be worth. I found one for sale that looks to be in decent condition. 2f 4 speed, runs and drives good. It only has a soft top and doors though. It does have some rust on the floor boards. The guy is asking $4500 for it. Is that a good price for a 1980?

Just talked to the owner again and he said it does have power steering but it needs a new high pressure hose. And it only has one really bad rust spot. I also found out that it is a build date of 9/79

Depends on what you looking for....

Few things I see , no running boards, cut fenders, wrong bib from a early 40, poor repaint. Cant comment on rust....nut my guess is there is bondo

I believe it has the correct bib with earlier parking lights added. It has the correct bezel which the means the head lights are further apart than the earlier bibs. Head light buckets could have been moved on a earlier bib or a later bezel shortened but easiest would be to just drill some holes and add the lights. Price has a lot to do with location. In the Southwest rust makes a cruisers hard to sell. What I've seen restored back east is a parts vehicle out west.

I think it is. It appears to be built out of a combo of parts. When I see new front end bits that dont match, I assume its had some sorta front end impact at somepoint, it may not have but.....

who knows whats up with the bib, yes the bezel is correct, it does have early marker lights but something else seem "off" to me, almost looks like the bezel sticks past the bib...but maybe its just the angle the pic was taken at.

Being from Minnesota I'm always concerned about rust. Bring a flat kitchen type magnet to check all the usual places to make sure the magnet sticks and look under neath for an signs of repair. If it's solid and runs good and it worth that to you, you'll have a decision to make.

I'm waiting on some more pictures from the owner. I'm in Mississippi and it's in Alabama so I'm going to try to find somebody over that way to check it out before I make any decisions. This vehicle is not going to be a resto project but one I can drive around and take short trips in and it be dependable.
