I got three weeks of vacation starting the seventh of january. I have a 100 with triple lockers, OME 2 inch lift, slee sliders and stock size AT tires and no winch or bumper, where should I go? Live in Memphis TN and want to take a road trip.

I have thought of going out west but not sure how far. Big Bend, Gila Bend, maybe death valley and then do some time in LA. Then maybe ski at big bear. Most of my off roading will be be solo unless I can convince someone to join me. Wife is not interested and kids are in school, but if I get near LA they might fly out and meet me. Maybe I could get to Honduras and take the Trans World Expedition guy some parts.

Coming out west would be great with a cruiser!!! There are so many areas to explore. The drive from TN through Texas is kind of flat but once you hit west Texas / NM there is a world of things to see. Zion is supposed to be beautiful in the winter and the desert areas will not be hot. You could consider a national parks pass ($80 IIRC) and use it to get into a number of sites. The four corners area of AZ, CO, UT, NM is a great area for wheeling as well as beautiful sites. Buy some travel books on the area and I guarantee you will not be disappointed. There are a number of great 4wd touring books that focus on these states as well as CA that you can buy. They describe the trips, sites, etc. PM me if you want some references.

Thanks for the info. I would love some references. Also guide book ideas. I PMd you but not sure it went through.

Wish I was getting more feedback.

well, if you make it out to CA, there will probably be some folks out in the Death Valley area. I'm planning on going to Saline valley hot springs weekend of Jan 16.

the SW deserts are excellent this time of year. Anza Borrego is good, as is the Mojave Preserve. It does get very cold at night, however, so bring a really warm sleeping bag or two.
