I talked to the man that built my 283 and he said that it was a hydraulic cam and lifters and stock 327 powerpack heads, I wonder if this is a mis-match and those heads weren't meant to be paired with the hydraulic setup

I don't think this should be a problem.

CHECK THIS OUT...

over the weekend I took the time to pull the FJ40 in the garage to look over the work that had beed done, check for leaks, etc. The truck has been running O.K. since I picked it up but still felt a little sluggish and there was a audible TICKING on the driverside. I spotted some replaced wiring sheathing and thought how it was nice of him replace it when I spotted something hanging down by the motor mount :o

you guessed it, 10 days at this guys shop $237.00 and two test drives and somebody forgot to reconnect all the plug wires >:( un-freaking believable. B.T.W. she runs fantastic now ::)

All the rocker arm nuts were replaced (2 of the bolts were stripped) and two of the pushrods were worn where the rocker arm contacts them to the point they had to be replaced (looked like the rockers were "cutting" into them ???) This combined with the broken valve spring causing a dead miss on #4.

I had the same thing happen on a 305 and the cam lobes were also wiped out.

I know you said it runs good now, but I'd keep an eye on that cylinder.

Dingle...were you running with solid or hydraulic lifter when you wiped the lobe ?

Deep...some of us early on said that the mech in question was of questionable motive and/or ability....you've just added the icing to that cake.
