My "utility" lights are now Mag-Lite's 3AA LED flashlights. Unscrew the reflector off of them and they trow a nice 180 degree field of light. Great for auto work, or walking down a trail at night. They also run for well over a day on one set of batteries. When they start to dim, the batteries have had all they can output extracted from them.
I'm not to worried if an LED is Cree or not, just that it is one of the truly high output ones. Cree does seam to lead the pack with theirs. At one point I had to laugh as one of their competitors was claiming the brightest LED. Yeah it output 10% more than Cree's brightest, but it needed 3 Watts. The Cree LED only used 1 Watt.

Much better for battery powered stuff like street lights. Yeah, Cree makes street lights using arrays of their LEDs. They also can be bought solar/battery powered. They are just as bright as a common sodium vapor street lights, but output the full spectrum, and have less than 1/10th of the lifetime cost.
