I'm having a bit of a problem hooking up my interior winch control. I have the Slee relay circuit that I want to use, but have a Smittybilt winch which is a three wire winch (relay is made for a five wire warn type winch). I tapped into the winch right before the remote plug. Hooked the in/out and power wire from the relay circuit to the three wires coming from the winch, then the in/out wires from relay to antenna switch. So far, so good. I have power to the relays because I can hear them click when I press the in and out buttons (already relabeled). So far no power to winch. I then connect the remaining two wires from the relay circuit to the power wire and presto the winch has power, BUT it's either both in or both out only!!
Any ideas on how I can make it work with the Slee relay circuit? I would also like to incorporate a hazard switch as an interior power switch in case I might bump the antenna switch by accident, but that doesn't seem too complicated.
Can anyone help an electrically challenged newbie? I would like to try to do this myself rather than having something made.

Thanks,

Dan

What wire colours have your wired to what??

Have you contacted Sleeoffroad?

cheers,
george.

White for 12v from the winch to relay. Red and brown for in/out. Green and black for 12v to the winch.
Already talked to Christo and he isn't too familiar with Smittybilt so couldn't help.

Sorry, that's on the relay. Hooked 12v from winch to white on the relay, and the in/out from winch to the red brown wires. Tried to hook the green and black wires from the relay to 12v wire coming from the winch and got the winch to turn, but depressing both in and out buttons on the switch only got me one direction. Either both in, or both out when I switched the in/out wires from the winch.

Ok what colour wires are on the smitty controller?

I likely can give you some hookup info that should work, but need to know that the smitty has in terms of colours - to see if it matches what I think it has...

If things are the way I think, you'll be able to use the Slee unit in a 'novel' way :)

cheers,
george.

Sounds good. I hope it works. The Smittybilt has a yellow/green wire for 12v and brown and blue for in/out.

Ok, not the colours I though, doesn't really matter.

So, wire the yellow/green +12V wire to the WHITE wire on the Slee relay module. That will provide +12V to the Slee relay module.

Next take the Brown wire from the Smitty and connect to the GREEN on the Slee relay module.

Next take the Blue wire from the Smitty and connect to the BLACK on the Slee relay module.

This is assuming the Slee relay module has the wire colours as per his website, i.e.:

That should make it work correctly for winching in/out. Test and confirm. I can't guarantee, but it "should" work.

So it is not necessary to connect the red and brown in/out wires from the relay to anything?

Nope, don't connect the red & brown wires FROM the slee unit to anything - just IGNORE them.

Basically the Slee unit is designed for a Warn where there's more control wires.

With the smitty, all it needs is +12V connected to either the brown or blue. So, we're only going to use the Slee relay unit to "buffer" the antenna switch since it can't carry much current.

Anyhow, give it a go and write back the results.

cheers,
george.

Thank you very much for that! I was getting pretty frustrated with it. I'm moving this weekend, but I'll give it a go as soon as I can. I'll post the results when I try it.

George,

I finally found the time to test that setup. Works like a charm! Thanks again! Now I just have to finalize the installation and I'll be good to go.

Dan, excellent news and thanks for taking the time to post back on this thread with the outcome.

I figured it should work, I'll have to point Christo to this thread so he can inform other customers that the control module can be used with the smitty.

cheers,
george.

No problem. I would guess I'm not the only one wanting to use this relay with a winch other than a warn.
I really appreciate the help.
