ok I have a GPS which is cool, but I found this online and wondered if it works like it says it does, basicly you down load poi maps that are updated as needed. when your moving around in your car, it 'alerts you' to 'known' speed traps and traffic cameras.

Sounds cool ( I want it), does anyone on here use something like this? I think there are a couple of sites that do this. this is the one I was looking at.

Here in my neck of the woods police and CHP post up anywhere they want. There isn't really set place for them. I commute around 90 miles a day and I've never seen a speed trap in the same spot. As these alerts and electronic gizmos are getting better the police get smarter too. Here in CA the police and CHP are ticket happy, they will pull you over for the smallest things and they call it (probable cause) then it's over from there. Forget about them having to meet their ticket quota cause then you really need to thread softly.

If there was a way to identify undercover CHP officers now that is something I would consider buying! I see regular cars that you never thought they would be a police car. When you least expect it they are on you. I've seen mustangs, your tipical crown vics, now the new chargers and chevy impalas just regular cars with hidden lights.

In any case it won't help much if you are commuting on the freeway because you can get tagged from all angles. Maybe city driving but like I said, I don't think it will fly here in CA. You drive fast here in CA it's a matter of time before you get caught up. Don't or can't afford a ticket! then take it easy. That's my opinion.

But good stuff anyway thanks for sharing:cheers:

Makes sense, as long as the data is updated consistently.

Me, I just invest in gps trackers, and slip them into our local traffic fleet...with an iphone, and some proximity alert tweaks and voila. ;)

Actually, I just watch my speed .. :steer:

How are you guys speeding anyway? It's a LAND CRUISER.... My '91 rejects speeds over 70....

Anyway... Arizona has a large number of perminently placed cameras on the freeways and main roads. The radar detector/GPS is programed with the known speed cameras and then alerts you to them... It doesn't help with the mobile - yes, Arizona has mini-vans mounted with cameras and flashbulbs- or physical police. Simple solution- save the money, don't speed, and buy somethin' nice for the LC....

Here in AZ, I've seen just about anything... My city even has a modified motorhome with cameras and flashes...

If you have a GPS enabled smartphone you can use Trapster. Basically it has all speed/red light camera's, and allows the user community to post known police hiding spots as well as a live in use traps.

If I drive by an officer using radar I press a button and for the next few hours every other user gets the update before they drive by. Since it has internet connectivty over the phone it gets instant updated information.

This plus a radar detector is the way to go. It gives you a moving map, and gives audible warnings if you get within a certain (settable) distance of one of the traps.

And I use it in a different car, speeding is the last thing I'm worried about in the LC

best thing of all - FREE - assuming you have a GPS smartphone and an unlimited data plan.
