They have settled on 21,000 just 100 above the mistaken internet price. Should i have this checked out by an outside party before taking it? It looks to be in very good condition for having 95,000 miles on it. they are going to do the 90k service and O2 sensor. and they have done the brakes.

When they do the brakes, do they usually just replace the pads or the rotors as well? they were down to 27%.

Thanks
Nate

If the rotors are original at that mileage, and they turn them, I would expect them to warp and pulse. If they are out of spec, have them replace the rotors. That sounds like a deal to me. The 90K service at a Lexus dealership probably gets quoted at 750+.

you don't think a Lexus dealer would go that low...to not perform a normal 90,000 mile. Fore instance if i talked them down enough they wouldn't screw me on the check up...would they? (this is a new years eve nate typing...not the normal....)

Thank you

The Service dept is a different profit center from sales and has a different management team. Ask for a copy of the work order and reciept, also have the water pump done at the same time along with all of the belts and hoses. Tell them you want all of the old parts (old timing belt, water pump, drive belt and old hoses) you will have to pay for the hoses, acc drive belts and new antifreeze, I am sure the tech would not be able to screw you and also find all of the used parts to cover his butt.

Good to know. I should ask them to change the belts, water pump and hoses. Are they going to change the water pump for the 90k service? or do i have to pay for that? Is there any maintence that needs to be done on the LX height control system...ie fluid change?

Thanks and Happy new year.

They recommend changing the water pump but it is not part of the 90K service. But since they are already in there doing the belt it won't cost and labor only the cost of the part. I would also have them change the ride height fluid. They will make a little off of you but you will be ready for the next 90K miles. :) If you don't want any out of pocket expense have them add up the additional cost of the parts/service and have them add it to the price of the LX, shouldn't be over a couple of hundred for the hoses, auxbelt, water pump, new antifreeze, and height control fluid change along with what they have to do for the 90K miles service they have already agreed to do. I would also list everything they are going to do during the 90K miles service on the contract. That along with the old used parts would be good enough to make me feel good about the work being done and that my new LX was in good shape.

With regard to the 90,000 mile service (I'm about to need one), can a general mechanic's shop perform this? Obviously, I'm talking about a competent mechanic, but what I mean is, are there any special service tools necessary that would prevent a non-dealership from performing this service?............I'm concerned about this because it's been my experience that the last place one is likely to get satisfactory repair work done is at the $tealership!

My local (small town) Napa service center won't do timing belts. Everything else is no problem, could be DIY if able.

my friend who is a toyota mechanic said the timing belt is a pain to do but difficlut you have to remove los of stuff first which is time consuming but all else is easy

How much does the timing belt cost usually? And should it be something they replace while doing the 90k service? I kinda hate to have them do all this extra stuff now if it's not needed.

How difficult is it to change the ride height fluid? and how much should i look at paying to these operations

thanks

Timing belt part costs about $40-50 wholesale. Service charge and extra supplies may run $300-400. Don't know what the water pump costs, but I agree that replacing it is a good idea at the same time.

Thank you for your suggestions. This could all add up, but if they are going to be in the engine area why not.
