I have BFG AT LT285/75R16 on my LX450. Original tread depth for this tire is 17/32". I drove them over 35.000 miles on dirt roads. Now the tread depth is between 7/32" and 8/32" depending on tire. Which is between 41% and 47% of tread left. What is the minimum usable tread depth for this model of tire?

Hi cbs

The legal minimum in North America on a steering axle is 4/32", 2/32 on a non-steering axle....but you dont want to run them that low. I think your 'useable' minimum will be when you feel the traction is not what it used to be...your gut feeling will prolly tell you!

Whatever you do, don't let it get down this far... These were my old tires.

tirerack.com has a few good videos demonstrating tread depth. 2/32 is the law in nv. That is when wear bars show up.
