Hi guys thought id say hello to you all and tell you about my new truck. Its a 97 vx amazon with 88000 miles on the clock :) I have never owned a 4x4 or indeed even been offroad before so please forgive the noob type questions :o
i looked at the tyres thread to find out the biggest ones i can put on a standard suspension but am unsure about what type to go for. I really fancy the bfg m/ts but have to do about 400 miles a week on tarmack so would the a/ts be a better choice?. my girlfriend has also told me that i can have a 2 inch suspension lift for my birthday :D so what size tyres do i go for now??. i cant wait to try it offroad so any tips advice would be most welcome. Its got a diff lock switch but im a bit scared to try it out untill i know what im doing

Up to 295/75-16 will fit with stock offset and size rims. A/Ts have better road life, but don't look as macho, M/Ts are better if you wheel in lots of mud, it's your choice.

who let all the brits in here???

:D

Welcome aboard :flipoff2:

Ahh for a little while i thought i was on the rangerover forum :D They dont like me or my vx much at all. thx for the welcome guys :D

Welcome aboard Steve, good to see some other Brits on the list.

If you want to find out a bit more about lifts, tyres etc available over here in the UK as well as have a bit of a play off road, I am organising a meet up of UK TLC owners down on Salisbury Plain on 20th November - at the moment there are about a dozen 80s coming along as well as a couple of other models.

If you want to know more drop me a line off list.

Congrats - now you only need do one more thing. You need leave the UK and come to America like I did, where there are thousands of square miles from snow-capped moutains to blistering desert to wheel for ever and ever without ever seeing another soul.

Given the wet weather and the high on road miles I think you would be happier with the BFG AT tires over the BFG MT tires. A buddy of mine with a Defender 90 was not happy with the on road wet traction of BFG MTs. The MTs would be better off road i the mud than the ATs, so, there you have it.

Currently he and I are running Goodyear MTRs. So far we have no complaints on wet roads.

In the 12 months that I have had the MTRs I have not been in any mud, so can't offer any comments with respect to that.

All tires are a compromise, so you would need to determine what is most important to you.

Whaddaya gettin' at???

:D
I haven't seen 240 since my junior year in high school ;)

Welcome. Don't worry you will never get railed on as much as me. If I were you go with the 295 at's and the lift. Perfect combo for what you do since you drive a lot on road. Good luck.

Steve,
There are several threads detailing how to "test" the F&R diff locks. Let me know if you can't find them and I'll post up the links.

Nice camera. :grinpimp: :flipoff2:
