I'd like to turn the front axle u-bolts over on my '75 FJ-40 so that I don't have little plows making furrows in the rocks anymore. Who makes a good kit for this?

I don't want to do a front coil-over conversion (suggested by Trevor) because, like Luke said, I'm tire of working on it. :bang:

Thanks in advance, Vic

I bought a set from All Pro Offroad, I don't know if they make them for 40's,
After I bought the ones for the front axle, I made my own for the rear. Took a little longer, but about half the cost. Rocky Mt. Spring can make U bolts in whatever length and diameter you want.

Those are nice units and I see that they include new u-bolts. I may go that route.

I have an old pair of u-bolt skid plates and tried to put them on years ago without much success. The u-bolt ends splay out when I put the torque to them. I hogged out the holes for more socket clearance but once I took the socket off I could not get it back on for the final torqueing. Any tips? If I could use those, I suppose I would just to save money.

I purchased the Man-A-Fre kit and finally installed it on Saturday. The quality and fit are fantastic and I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to do this mod. I did not realize how much slop there was in my old hardware; this kit tightened it up, silenced it, and made it a joy to drive again. Vic

Awesome. I really hate when I buy something and it doesn't fulfill all my expectations, so I'm glad you got what you wanted. How about taking it out for a test run on Saturday? I think Weston/ mosquito would be the perfect proving grounds. ;)
