Over the last month i have noticed relatively heavy wear on the Front Left tyre of my LJ79 prado. The tyre wears only on the outside, inside is fine.So im thiking its probably a wheel bearing.

Its runs 265/70x16's and up to now 20,000 km since tyres wre changed the wear has been spot on.

Is there anything else i should be checking??

I doubt its a wheel bearing. More like a tie rod or its needs an alignment.
Its nearly always happen on the left tyre on a RHD because its further away from the steering box and it cops more pot holes;)

You can test the bearing by lifting the wheel and grasping the tyre top and bottom and wriggling it for play.

Alignment was done 5000k's ago .

I can only say have it checked by someone else. The only thing that can cause wear on one side of a tyre is the tyre not being aligned,or something is bent.
I know some of out local tyre shops would try to do 4wds with gear only meant for cars.

The reason i dont think its the allignment is cause its been alligned at the same place from even before i bought it and the tyre wear has been perfect until ablut 1500k's ago.guess i will have to check if something is bent.

If the allignment is off should'nt there be a hint of bad wear on the other side as well.Cause the only thing adjustable on these cars is the toe and if that is wrong it shopuld affect both sides.

If camber was adjustable then its another story.but not so in this case.

Thanks for the input rosco.

No, You can misalign only one wheel and it will wear the outside edge of only that one wheel.

10 to 1 you hit a big pothole or dropped it off a ridge while in the mud or whatever and puleld it out by about 3-4 degrees or so. Go get it realigned, it needs it.

When we go bush we almost always need alignments afterwards. Depends how nuts you go tho.
