So I've been thinking about making the jump from my Tundra to a 100 series for a daily driver. I found one in similar shape as the truck with similar miles. If we can get the price to meet up in the middle, it may be viable.

What are your thoughts? Is it a wise choice? Is there any interest in the Tundra itself to you guys?

Tundra
5.7 double cab, with 4wd
86k miles
Half tread on Nitto Terra Grapplers
Good brakes front and rear
Single owner
Rhino liner
One accident with proper repairs... Pictures to document too.
No known issues now or going forward.
Lifted with OME coils and shocks.

Land cruiser
2005, 95k miles
Completely stock
Leather I'm good shape, white in color with tan leather and bumpers
He said its ip to date on service, including the 90K timing chain.

Tell me about what you guys think about this...

What's the benefits of going with the 100 series ? I mean, what are the benefits for you ? Is your family growing that you need room for 7 ? If I were single or didn't have a bunch of kids I would probably run the Tundra just for the utility of having the bed. Also, you don't lose anything off road wise between a Tundra and the 100 series.

I have several friends with 100's and they are quite nice. Not sure what your off road needs are but they do really nice with an OME setup and 33's. The only downfalls that I see is that they have torsion bars on the front and they are AWD. Bumpers and suspension and other fanciness carries a premium price. Do you need something as big as a 100? If not, you might also consider a 4th Gen 4Runner.

If you are not going to build the 100 up, I would keep the truck. I miss my truck about once a week.

With your 80 it doesn't make since to double up the SUV. Keep diversified

Agreed... The 80 is a beast and really does quite a bit. It's not super daily drivable, nor is ot something I would want to take any sort of distance other than to the trail.

We'll, benefits would be the leather, sunroof, and perceived reliability of these vehicles...plus, it's a relatively low mileage example of man 05 that should bring quote a few years to be... Now, that begs the question of... If I'm looking for a few car, why not go new ? This would be in my price range and still offer functionality. If I ever need to tow, this should handle whatever weight I may need.

Luckily for me, an 80 is in my stable so my offroad needs are there. I love the 80/100 because they have the last of interiors I like... Few blind spots, high belt lines, and just a timeless style.

Haha no joke.. I use it often enough, but not "really" enough to warrant it.

Yeah the 5.7 is a great tow vehicle... At THIS point, I don't know how far or soon I would be towing the 80. I foresee it being an emergency.

The tundra is a hell of a vehicle though. I've used it and abused it sporadically and it keeps asking for more. (Shameless plea for those in the market).

MMMM 85 4Runner :steer:

I have both. Mileage will be the same. Ride, obviously, is better in the 100. You'll miss the bed of the truck. IMO keeping the Tundra is more practical. Don't get me wrong, we love our 100. I just wouldn't want to load up an engine block in the back of a nice '05 100.

WWDRD - What would Dave Ramsey do?

And x4, You will miss having a bed. No matter how little you use it.

This is fun because its not my money, and I am the LAST person you want to take advice on regarding this situation :)

But here I go!
  • Sell the Tundra to an individual. $15-20k in your pocket?
  • Buy a Corolla for a DD. Like this one - high miles, newer model for like $5K http://kansascity.craigslist.org/cto/4573177451.html
  • Continue to put money into your 80 - do the next thing you want to do, but for <$3k This is your expedition rig!
  • Pocket $8-$10K and wait to see if you really need a pick-up (sounds like you don't have to have one at the moment.

You guys make some damn good points. I haven't been in my truck for over a week until yesterday. The power is just unmatchable and the bed is gonna be useful.

I will contact the guy and see what the 100 looks like but due to the circumstances, I will hold out for an even trade... Which I know won't happen haha
