I see several folks moving to the 18 inch tundra steel rims and am considering the same. There seems to some that prefer the spoke style steel rim and others the rally - ? style steel rim (the one with circles punched out all the way around the rim). Is there a technical basis for choosing either or just personal preference?

Will the center caps for the steel wheels fit when mounted on the land cruiser?

Thanks for any thoughts on this.

Yes you need different lug nuts for the steel ones. I've noticed some people reusing the alloy lug nuts but it's not recommended.

I've switched to Tundra Aluminum 18's using the lugs off of the Tundra. The center caps fit in the rear, but not the front. I like them a lot.

I bought and extra 4 so I could get a matching spare. I'll have 3 AL wheels, and one steel LC 16" for sale as soon as I get new tires all sorted out.

Help!!!

Getting new tires in the morning (BFG AT 275/70/18) and need to decide whether to go with the steel wagon style wheels or just go ahead and put the new tires on the original aluminum landcruiser rims.

I prefer the steel wheels with the circles punched out all the way around the rim, but can't seem to find any locally for sale. I have located the steel wagon style rims with center caps and lug nuts for a reasonable price.

1. Any technical reason why I shouldn't use the wagon style steel rims?

2. Can someone post a picture of the wagon style steel rims on their land cruiser?

Thanks!

Honestly the alloy wheels are probably your best bet for pretty much everything you'd do in the US. Unless you drive yor truck full speed off the trail and break your wheels & bend your frame while doing it, Jeff, then you're probably not going to need the ability to bend your wheels back with some heat and a hammer. I have steel wheels for two reasons, I got a great price, and I liked the look. If I wasn't heartset on getting steel wheels and powdercoating them black I'd have just picked up some 18" alloys and gone with those. No reason to spend extra time & effort to get considerably heavier wheels. The 5 spoke ones are 15lbs heavier than the 16" alloy and 10lb over the 18" alloys.

^^^^Thanks for the good feedback. Have to admit, my land cruiser will never experience any real hard off road action. Maybe a mining road in Colorado, if I am lucky, and trips with the family camping. But, I do like the look of the steel rims (less mall cruiser looking) and was considering keeping the street tires on the original rims (just to have). Since I am scheduled to get the new tires tomorrow, will probably mount them on the factory aluminum rims and just go with it for awhile. Thanks again.

This truck is why I put tundra steel wheels on.
