Here is a video clip of a 'brand spanking' new 4Runner newbie 'trusting' his gut and not the spotter.

Could have gone worse, and with any luck he learned a thing or two about trusting the spotter.

On the Hell's Gate obstacle in Moab I actually stopped and questioned the spotter because what he was asking me to do felt exactly the opposite of what I thought I should do. He calmly repeated his instructions, which I then did, and went up without lifting a wheel.

If you're not going to trust your spotter, you might as well tell him to step aside and go it on your own...

On second look that is one butt ugly mofo front end, which you can't see over- great for offroading in the mall parking lot

It crazy what your head does. On Ochi, you have this terrific huge drop on one side and some off-camber. And I know that you don't turn up hill on off-camber.

My spotter continually pointed my tires down hill as I kept creeping them up slope as I went along.

That guy is lucky!
