Hear it - I'll show you.

Where in Texas are you and when do you want to be shown up? Or, better yet, come up to Disney, OK. I'm pretty much bone stock and locked with 170K on the clock. Though, I'd suggest loosing the running boards before you come up to Disney, or you'll lose them there. You want respect? Come on up and earn it!
Ok good,

So Thai you have now 3 invitations to go and proof yourself.

AZ, CA and OK.

SInce you are the one trying to proof something here come proof it to us in our backyard. But I know you wont pitch in either OK, AZ or CA cause you are scared.

Dont chicken out now. You could argue for hours with all of us, now come wheel for days with all of us.

I haven't commented on this thread yet, but Thai has annoyed me enough that I will: Thai- you can list all the specs you want and post as many pics you want of RTI and easy fireroad trails, but why is it that when people on this forum invite you out to wheel with them and show you what your rig can do, you ignore them? If you are so confident that your rig is so capable, I would think you would be eager to wheel with some of the guys here and show them in person. Something doesn't quite add up here. Please respond to this somewhere.

Can someone in Texas ask Thai to a join the next time they go to a real trail pleeease??? How about Nolen or Butch Baker? I heard Katemacy (spelling?) in Texas has some good wheeling trails. I don't mean to see him trash his G500 but hope that he sees something...

Thanks.

/td

I already did invite him and I'll make sure I take my stock LX470. No mods, just ready to roll.

your point??? i do that with my 40, except i don't have a son, and maybe skimpin a bit of comfort... but still not terrible.. and i have the added advantage of live axle front, with a front diff that won't grenade in reverse.. :D fuelin the fire

That's really not much fuel to the fire. I made my point in the first three sentences of that paragraph which you conveniently cut out to make your point. Why don't you read it again:

There are a lot of us here that find the 100 to be a great vehicle. It gives me the best of both worlds. I have a luxury SUV that I can drive my family around in, drive to work and haul clients around. I can drive my family to South Carolina for vacation with plenty of room and comfort. AND, I can take my son wheeling on the weekend for a day or two. I can cover a lot of challenging trails and at the end of the day, I can drive home with no failures! Then on Monday, I can drive it back to work again. That is why I bought my 100.

My point to this post is that the 100 is a LUXURY vehicle that does ALL of the things I mentioned above while still being very capable offroad. To each his own, but there is no way you are going to convince me that your 40 can do ALL of that as well as a 100. I'm not saying that older Cruisers suck or that I don't like them, I do like them a lot. I am saying that while your 40 can go places my 100 will never go off road, your kidding yourself if you think your 40 has the versatility that a 100 offers.

With that said, I do like the 40's alot and when I'm able to afford another vehicle, I'm going to buy a 40 that I can build into a dedicated trail rig. But, that is probably at least two years away (the wife just had a second baby).

Those mercedes g wagons were really just based on a military vehicle I think. Designed to crawl through muddy fields, etc, not rock crawl. Of course LCs designers probably never imagined them crawling over boulders either.

Yeah and make sure he puts back his stock wheels and tires. Since he thinks 31" highway tires on 18" wheels are great as long as you have lockers.

Or else any mods are acceptable :grinpimp:

I think my and Scotts invitation is open ended though, since neither of us run stock tires any more. AT least we didn't have to special order wheels from Europe, as we still use the stock Toyota wheels that the 4R and 100 came with.

Funny that he is so quiet now, he usually replies pretty soon.

I better run with him soon because the 470 is going to be lifted within the next couple weeks. Still debating on Nitto's 325/70 R16's or the 365/65 R16's. I was going to run Parnelli Jone but this is my DD.

For the 365's, which wheels are you thinking about using? Have you found any nice 10" wide wheels?

Okay, sorry about the tech hijack... back to the chit-chat...

That would be the only downfall on the 365's...purchasing new wheels. I really haven't checked out any wheels yet but Alan Podvin ran 38 x 15.5 on the stock wheels with some spacers, not sure what size spacers though. So I figure the 365's should work on the stock rim with some spacers. It will be pushing it, but it may work.

Maybe if we take this thread so off course it will be cool again....

What are you doing for the lift? Replacing springs at all, or just tweaking the hydaulics 'puter?

That's a lot of tire.

What is needed to run 35" on the 100? Lift obviously, but which one? ANd is any changes needed to the fenders, wheels, etc? Also do you need to regear?

OME 863 or 100 spirngs with 20mm packers
2.75" front T-bar lift with new T-bars
Front diff-drop
Some minor trimming up front
Lower rear bump stops 2" (or else you rub quite a bit)

Nice. DO you use OME shocks for extra downward travel then, especially in the back? Or is stock fine?

Wish it was that easy for my 4R to get 35".

Do you need to regear for the 35" tires?

That's it for right now, just AHC adjustment with the diff drop. I would love to get my hands on both sets of tires, the 325's 365's just to compare before purchasing. Discount tire is next door to us and I may ask if they can bring some in for comparison.

I really don't want to tweak the suspension with new TB and rear springs. I may turn the factory TB's a couple turns though. I want to keep it as factory as possible since it has the AHC system. If I decide to go with the 365's, I may trim some ineer fenders and bumpers a bit.

We'll see once I get a hold of the little "black box". ;)

100 springs with 20mm packers is less than 1" lift in the rear, right?

I thought about using the AHC and black box with OEM suspension to get the permanent lift but the soft suspension concerns me. The LX's ride, as nice as it is, sways when cornering and dips on braking enough already. If I lift it 2" with AHC and another 2" with the tires--I might be creating a dangerous situation. I realize its not a sportscar but I'm talking about emergency handling.

It drives and feels fine at less than 18mph on AHC-HI. Not sure about 65-75mph though. I'll just have to find out.

The LX springs are softer than the 100s, so you can replace them with 100 series springs if you don't want to go all the way to OME.

You will lose the lowest setting on the AHC, however, as the stock setting is sitting on the soft LX springs with no hydro assist. When you swap out the springs, it will still have no hydro assist, but will sit only as low as a stock 100.

The LX470 also has 4 ride settings to go from a soft ride to a firm ride. It can be plush and super smooth on the lowest setting, but when you place it on the highest setting, it's pretty firm with little body roll.

.....ahhh crap you already know that since you are a LX owner!! Sorry.
