Hey All,
Wounderin if anyone else has run into this problem. We are runnin the sm420 behind the f motor. It has the big heavy 3 spd style flywheel.
Derrick an I have found some trouble with the chevy clutch disc we are using in front of the sm420 trans. The springs in the center of the disc have been hittin the bolts that hold the flywheel to the crank. They are cut about half way thru.
With a new disc an no bolt retainers the springs barly touch the bolt heads.
The center of the toyota disc is rivited on the oppisit side of the chevy disc, so it has plenty of room. Also the 10 1/2" Chevy clutch is rivited like the Toyota disc.
Ramm makes a solid center racin clutch disc. $194 from Summit. Ouch!
Friend at OReillys says no to any cheaper solutions.
Manafre used to sell a heavy duty clutch that had a GM styled disc, alas no more.
Advance adapters says they use a Centerforse disc. Didn't ask how much...
My thoughts were, Have the very center of flywheel surfaced, where the bolts go, not use the lock tabs, locktite em insted. Or Grind the the inside of a Toyota disc so it will fit on the sm's input shaft. Or maybe we can git the center swapped to the other side of the facing of the disc???
Does the 4 spd style flywheel have the blt area recessd deeper than the 3 spd style?
Course the other thing troublin me is we put the sm420 in the Hot Dog Cruiser back in 2002. I put a used 11" disc I had layin around. Are the springs goin to break one of these days? Will the disc free wheel or lock? Crap I'm gittin gray hair!
Thanky in advance, Don P.
