Ok folks,
The china wall run is up upon us, 20 Feb. We need someone to be trail leader.

Please post here if you are going and/or if you'd be interested in being trail leader, it can even be divided among 2 people if your not too sure of what to do...:D

here is the link for the trail...

Wish I could go, but I have to help another club get a dinner together.

I won't be able to make this trip, Have continuing education classes this weekend. bummer, would rather go wheeling.

For those planning to attend the run, try to post your intentions so that people who are on the fence might jump in. I know Ryan was talking about going, but has never been on the trail, and I don't suggest anyone go out by themselves. I'm sure I will make the March run......see you then.

Yeah, I'm going for sure. This is the first trail run since I joined that I have the whole day off. My wife who works every Saturady has the day off too and actually wants to come with. I prefer not to be the trip "leader" only because if anyone asks me what they should do all they might get is a shoulder shrug. Ill be at the Western by 8:30 either way. Hope we have a good turnout!

I'm planning to make it, but don't know the trail, so I won't volunteer as trip leader.

I'm in for this run.

My 60 has been in the garage for a month and is finally ready for a test run. I have been on this trail a few times so I can lead if need be.

I don't have my front anti-wrap bar connected and I busted the front ring and pinion on this trail when I didn't have one so lets hope I remember the skinney peddle lesson from last time.

I didn't know you broke that ring and pinion on China Wall......how the hell did you break there? there's nothing even hard about that trail.

Kinda sad I will miss out on this one, can't wait to see Chuck's new front axle, always have good time when Vic shows up, and I bet Eric is bringing out the new 40? Damn, Oh well, I guess you can't 4 wheel all your time away.

I bet Eric is bringing out the new 40?

Nope - brakes & carb are still to flaky. Gotta pump the brakes 2 or 3 times before they get serious. And then the back axle locks up and it pulls like hell to the left - a panic stop would be exciting! Gonna take a closer look at that this weekend.

Not real confident in the current carb tune getting it up the pass, or the brakes getting it down!

Add a couple if inches of fresh snow and this would be a entertaining to watch:cheers:

I was at China rock one time and someone told me that it took some skinny peddle to get up the rock so I figured I would show them what skinny peddle could do with a V8. When I made it to the top of the rock the front tires came off the ground, I was still on the gas when the front tires landed on the solid rock and snap went the front pinion.

That ring and pinion had less than 100 miles on it$$$

Hi my name is Bobby I have never been on a trial run with this club or on this trial but I am planing on going on Feb 20

Sounds great Bobby! You know where the meeting place in Woodland Park is right? Its the Western Gas station just as you are getting into the edge of Woodland Park. What vehicle do you drive?

Looks like the Lake George area will get 1"-3" of snow and have a 30% chance of snow on Saturday with a high of 37deg.

Sounds like we will have 6 or 7 rigs on the trail so it should be a good group.

I am going and will volunteer as the trail leader. Looking forward to seeing all of you at the Western tomorrow morning. Meet at 8:30, leave promptly at 9:00. It's usually cold up there, so please keep that in mind. There are four vehicles in the group coming up with me, so we should have another great turnout.

I am going to leave myself in a vulnerable position by saying what I'm about to say, but I'm sure Luke, Chuck, and Darryl will be nice to me.

China Wall is the site of the Memorial Tree Encounter that I had several years ago that started the tradition in our club. Let the record show that I was giving a winter trail driving demonstration to my daughter at the time. I was driving at a very slow, cautious speed when that tree jumped out at me. I think there was a freak wind gust that bent the tree over into the trail at an extreme angle. Various witnesses did not have good viewing angles and fabricated wild stories about how fast I was driving and how I slid off the trail and hit a large pine tree. I cannot even imagine how they could come up with something like that.

Vic,

Please add this to your story.

I'm going to try to join the group. I'll be at the Western on the east side of Woodland Park at 8:30 tomorrow morning. I drive a white 97 80 series with a snorkel and a funny looking front bumper.

an adendum to Vic"s tale...

Let the record show, in addition to the fine description that Vic has given, I believe I was in the white FJ40 following Vic when this incident did occur and thereby witnessed the settling of the snow flakes and or whitish to reddish brown dust, which was a direct result with the said contact with the Ponderosa pine tree, hereby known as "Vic's Tree". And let the record show that because of this event, the English language gained a new verb for this event:

Viced: pronounced "Vic - ed" To create an unplanned modification to the outline of a vehicle fender, by having, or allowing to happen, a vehicle fender strike on an object which is permanently attached to the earths surface, such as a large tree, or an even more permanently affixed rock.

And so it is recorded, and so it did happen on a fine day at China Wall. Having recorded this, thusly, I myself have personally Viced my right front fender on my FJ40. Yes, indeede. Happened several years ago on Holy Cross

And here is Vic'sTree:
Notice that is is a little icy, and if one were to have excessive speed, one may not be able to turn to the right to avoid the tree, and thusly, one could indeed, Vic a left front fender, such as was the case when Vic's left front fender was Viced.
