Just picked up traxxx stampede for the boy and I, and I am wondering about extra batteries and a charger. The charger with the truck recharges the bat's in several hours. I understand from various searches that there are chargers i can get that work way faster.
what is the best set up for an extra battery and a charger? Do the chargers work off 12v vehicle outlets, or do I need to use my converter?

I use the same thing thanks to 4rnr and it works great. I am running crappy nimh packs and they take about 30 minutes to charge. But after a quick phone call from my rc assistant, I was good to go.

One thing to keep in mind the higher the milliamp the longer you can run for, nimh packs can be found up to 4600-5000mah and will give a good run time in a stock car but also will take longer to charge,Check with your local Hobby shop or Radio Shack(The Sourse here)they use to carry desent battery packs and quick chargers if you just want a simple set up.
If you are willing to try lipos, the link has some good deals on lipo batteries and chargers, some caution has to be taken when dealing with lipos though. 2s1p is a 7.4 volt pack and 3s1p is a 11.1 volt pack.

If you are looking to stay with nicad or nimh batteries check on you local craigslist, the local hobby shop or a local rc car event for a used peak charger, alot of racers/bashers are going with lipos these days and a simple peak charger can be found for fairly cheap, even if it is only 12volts a simple 12 volt power supply can be converted for between $6-$10 from a old computer power supply, these work great and usually can be found for free.
