Wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience: transmission slips on the 2nd—>3rd gear shift (very slightly slip).
If I manually shift from 2nd —> 3rd it shifts fine.
If you’ve dealt with this, what was the issue/solution?

Have solenoids ever been replaced in the transmission? If fluid is good and it shifts fine manually that’s the usual suspect.

I’m not sure - definitely not since I’ve owned it. Have not checked the fluid yet - this just started and haven’t been able to do any investigation. My plan was to drain/fill this weekend and see if that helps - from what I’ve read up on the A442F the filter doesn’t need to be changed.

Try driving uphill from a standstill and steadily increasing throttle. If it still slips, that is to say if the engine rpm increases without a commensurate increase in speed, it's worn clutches. They have to be replaced; there is no other solution.

You'll most likely see solenoid failures while driving normally and slowing or increasing speed. I have experienced solenoid failures on a A442F and I haven't seen any shifting failures under load. The solenoid failure symptom is more a delayed shift than a slip.

‘Delayed shift’ sounds somewhat like what I’m feeling. And during normal shifting. I’ll give this uphill shift test a try.

For anyone that may be experiencing a similar issue, this issue was fixed by adjusting the throttle valve cable. The issue, which seems somewhat common on an A442F, is known as “shift flare”.

Hope this helps someone.

Thank you @voodu3 @Malleus - I ended up changing the solenoids as well.

Always a good idea to try the simple things first.
