Son's 2014 Camry has a transmission shudder and needs to be looked at. Looking at some of the forums, it is not an uncommon issue
with the 2012-2014 models. Thanks for any recommends.

When I was at Toyota I replaced a lot of torque converters due to a TSB and extended warranty for this issue. Not sure if it’s covered anymore but it was a very common thing for the 4cyl Camry and rav-4 to develop a torque converter shudder. We would replace the converter with an updated converter and reflash the ecm.

Exactly what I have found while searching. Unfortunately it is way past any warranty coverage.

Yea usually a trans at this point. We don’t do just the convertor anymore.

Sending him to these folks after talking to them on the phone and good reviews, fingers crossed.

For future reference I have had great service from The AutoBar in Mesa, they are out by Falcon Field, started in Gilbert. They have worked on all my vehicles and never sold me anything i didn't need and have prevented a few of my friends from getting robbed by another shop/dealership. They did a complete AC replacement in my 80, all OEM parts, it blows ice cubes, multiple timing belts (sequoia, rx330, gx470), cooling system work, suspensions, etc. Toyota/Lexus master tech if I remember correctly.
