transfercase input shaft problem

have a 242 transfer case out of a 1990 cherkee it has 21 spline input shaft. putting it in 1995 cherkee sport that has a 23 spline shaft. can i just change out the input shaft both are 242 and have same gear ratio.

The shafts should be interchangeable.
Don't know much about Heep gear, but the Toyota RF1A T-case input shaft of the 23-spline variety is a beefier choice than the 21 spline, might be the same logic for your application.
