I'm broke down at a friends. It started with a rear axle seal that spewed gear oil all over the inner rear wheel. I limped down the freeway and it started to make a thumping noise that I thought was coming from the rear. When i got off the highway I put it into high 4x4 just to see what would happen and it barely moved foreword and felt it binding up. Had to give it considerable gas pedal to move at all. To get out of 4x4 (auto hub) I had to go in reverse and was barely able to get it out with considerable force. Out of 4x4 it drives fine other than a considerable inconsistant clunking. Any ideas? Thanks

Sorry, 87 4runner. 2 years ago the fluids were changed. I raised all 4 tires off the ground and ran it in 4x4. the thumping noise doesn't occur. No stress on componenets I'm guessing. However, it seems the right cv axle appears pretty sloppy so I'm hoping that's it along with the rear axle seal
