This is my first post on this forum. I have found the reading very interesting. I've not found this problem posted. The problem I encountered was when climbing up a normally easy climb but with snow and ice on the hill. I was in 1st gear low range with the axles locked. I couldn't make it up the hill with all of the ice - (I also have a very tired 2F -long story) spinning all 4 wheels and going nowhere. I put the trans in reverse and proceeded to back down slowly & carefully steering to keep it straight, as getting sideways could lead to a rollover. After traveling about 30 yards, the transfer case popped into neutral. I made it down the hill safely no problem. The same thing occured on two other attemps. Why is the transfer popping out of gear? Any help will be appreciated.
