Trying to confirm/deny what year my tranfer case is. It's off what I thought was an original 2/79 FJ40. I have a transmission shop doing a rebuild of the tranny and transfer case during my frame-off. Keeps getting the wrong kit...his tech supplier says the transfer is a 74 year model. I wasn't prepared to agree or disagree until I did a little background research.
Best I can tell from the tech links here: the 79 will have the fully raised support ring for the idler shaft, and will have a 27 spline front output shaft. That should be rather conclusive when I go look at it tomorrow, (along with the pictures to help me!)
Any other thoughts or recommendations to add? Appreciate!
Cheers,
Dave
P.S.
How does one determine year of a 4 speed transmission?
