Anyone got a line on transmission parts? Local transmission shops are coming up with nothing. Otherwise I'll need a whole transmission, and I cannot seem to find one of those either.

Please give us more information. What year 100 series? A343F or a A750F?

Which planetary gear in the transmission? Front? Center? Rear?

So sorry! Details help, huh?

2002. A343F. It has a factory TRD supercharger, but that's probably not a factor unless there's some sort of torque that need to be accounted for.

Mechanic that tore it down speaks halting English but I believe it's the Overdrive planetary. I'm not opposed to an entirely new / rebuilt transmission, but those are proving difficult to find as well. Any help appreciated!

I hope that you don't need to scrap your tranny. If you can't get it rebuilt, check out Cruisers and Co. They sell the Aussie built Wholesale Automatics Toyota transmissions.

If the A442F in my wife's 80 ever craps out, I'll be getting one from the fellas above.

34710-14020. Still available from Toyota.

If the planetary gears are out, that means the parts came off the gears will destroy other gears/wheels and oil pump surface as well. make sure there are no any other broken parts in the transmission else those will continue to eat up your freshly rebuilt transmission. When mine O/D needle bearings went out, it basically destroyed the entire transmission: Only the input shaft, output shaft and casing was salvaged. Got it rebuilt at a shop in San Antonio TX. Ask them to install OEM rear main seal and transfer case input seal while all are apart.

Nothing obvious on their web site. I've entered vehicle/engine in and they only have five parts - valve bodies, drain pans and gauges.

I'd call them. The Aussies had tons of A343Fs in their 80s (as far as I know). That's where the rebuilds come from. If you got that route, you'll likely need to send Cruiser and Co your existing tranny as a core.

Actually the complete opposite. A343Fs were not installed on Aussie FZJ80’s

Manual trans and A442F transmissions were the only specifications.

Thanks, man. Good to learn something new.

Good advice on the seals!

Did the chewed up gears look like this?

Again, good advice. I called them and they're going to do some digging and call me back. I think they focus on upgrades - or at least more so than reclamation projects like mine, but I get the sense that they know where the bodies are buried and may have a source. The only option I've found so far is a pulled part (not remanufactured) complete tranny down in Houston with 150k miles for $1500.

Hate for my LC to go down for lack of parts. It's a fun one and the supercharger makes it quite unusual . The SC is a real difference maker in driving. Sounds pretty cool, too!

As I suspected, they too are waving the white flag. They have all the goodies for 80's, just not 100's. They recommend I install their beefed up valve body while I've got it open. That's $2k on top of what is surely gonna be a $3000-4000 tranny (if I'm lucky). What are these things worth, again?

Another local shop *may* have a solution....more towing! We shall see...

Bummer, man. I'm sorry that things didn't work out. If you look above in this thread, you'll see that @OGBeno provided the part number for the tranny assembly that you need. They are still available from Toyota. Won't be cheap, but OEM will be quality.

If you buy from a South Eastern Toyota Dealer, they are running a 25% off sale. Now would be the time to buy.

FWIW, the

If I paid $1,500 for a 20+ year old used transmission, I would have to see it in action first. IMHO, no A343F for the 100 series is worth more than $500, sight unseen, which is what you're getting if you accept a used unit on a shelf, or even in a truck in a salvage yard.

Having said that, the overdrive planetary you need was only used in two Toyota models, in the U.S.: the 100 series Land Cruiser/Lexus LX470 and the 1993-1996 Supra (good luck finding one of those in a salvage yard). If it wasn't so heavy, you could have a new one shipped from Japan, for much less than you can buy one here; if it wasn't so heavy.

FWIW, those gears didn't spontaneously explode. That failure was very likely due to a failure of the bearing(s) that was(were) supposed to keep the planetary assembly and the shaft in line with each other and on the same centerline. I'd recommend you look at both of those items, too.

A (Toyota) rebuilt transmission wasn't worth more than $3,000, when they were available. I wouldn't pay someone more than $4,000 all in, and then it would have to be a complete rebuild.

If it was me, I'd buy the new planetary assembly and move on.
