How does a shop hook up to the tranny and where?
Do they just pull the line to the cooler and stick a hose in a barrel of ATF and put the other in a bucket and when they get 16 qts they turn the motor off?

Inline with the cooler lines. Machine has a reservoir with new fluid and then a hose that dumps the old fluid into the waste container. Motor running. Machine pumps in new fluid, and truck pumps out old fluid. You monitor the fluid level all the time and compare two sight glasses with fluid in it. One will be new fluid, other old fluid. Run until stuff comming out looks like stuff going in. Anyware from 16-20+ qts. The trick to using the machines is to get the in and outflow balanced and not under or overfill the tranny.

I guess I won't just stick the hose in a drum and let the tranny suck it.

I had my tranny fluild changed (don't know if it was a flush or exchange) along with the filter cleaned 2yrs and 30,000 mi ago.
Should I have a full exchange with filter, just an fluid exchange or do the "do it yourself" drain and fill method?
