Trailer wire plug cover (1 Viewer)

I've done a search on this, fwiw...

My spring-loaded plastic cover for the trailer wire plug is broken, and the 7-way plug has gotten road gunk it. Is this door a necessity, or will a good cleaning & coat of dielectric grease keep it working? Thanks!

And based on everything I'm finding online, this harness, despite being on a 100, matches the photos of the 200 harness. Color me confused.

I would want the cover. However I am picky about all lights working, and leaving it exposed will allow grime and thus potential failures to occur.

Maybe buy one of the connection checking plugs and just leave it place?
