Trailer Security

Along with large dogs and long range rifles try this. Instead of a normal hitch ball on the cruiser, install a receiver and tow bar configuration, and on the trailer do the same, instead of a towbar use a piece of 2 inch receiver tube and insert any combination of towbars as well as a security pin and lock when you are away. I use this on mine and have never had any poblems. See it at the meeting of the Trail Crew in December. It will be there complete with all the mods I have devised. Jim

I welded the female end of the receiver style hitch to the tounge of my trailer. I use a Bulldog ball coupler that I wleded to the slide in part of the hitch. When I park it I just pull the receiver out and toss in the back of the FJ. I also let the air out of one tire. I have onboard air so airing it back up is not a problem.

As far as the cargo goes. I bought a cable mesh style back pack lock. REI has them as well as Cabelas. It is a high strength cable mesh that goes over the cargo and I lock it to the side hooks. Think of a bungey style cargo net except it made out of high strength STEEL cable. I bought two of the biggest ones the had and married them together. They work perfect.

Technically speaking, If someone had an extra reciever, portable air and some strong bolt cutter they could steal my trailer and all of my stuff. The good thing is that thieves are generally lazy and don't plan very well.
