DECEMBER 8th-9th, 2012
OVER-NIGHTER

toysfortots.jpg

Well its that time a year again, Yet again! It's our 6th year for organizing this and I can't believe how fast time flies. I like to mix things up and always keep the event fresh, so this year we have a new location that will serve as a great venue for all types off Off Road Enthusiasts.

The Location will be Hungry Valley State Vehicle Recreation Area, Gorman CA Located just north of Los Angeles.

I've rented out the entire Aliklik Campground right next to the 4x4 Practice Course. The campground is near trails for exploration and serves as the gateway to the Los Padres NF.

The park is large with over 100 mile of trails and there's something for everyone, not just Overlanders. You can ride green sticker dirt bikes, quads and buggies. We want to appeal to a larger spectrum of folks so we can optimize our Toy Drive success!

DATE
  • December 8th, 9th 2012. (First Weekend in December!). Not too close to Christmas and New Years and a far enough from Thanksgiving. Pencil it in now!

TIME: The ToyDrive is 9am-4pm. Overnight Camping and Day-Use Welcome

FEE's
Day Use - $5 per day
Camping - $10 per night

LOCATION:
http://www.mapquest.com/maps?address=46001+Orwin+Way&city=Gorman&state=CA&redirect=true

WHAT IS IT?:
  • So this is how it works. You bring a new unwrapped toy valued at $10 or more to the meet up. You get a raffle ticket for your contribution. PLEASE NOTE: For every 5th toy you donate you will receive an additional raffle ticket. Reminder so we're clear and everyone has a fair chance of winning a prize... If you drop off 100 toys , you will not receive 100 tickets. Also, new for this year - If you're in anyway involved with the event coordinating, setup etc, you will not be eligible to win prizes.

We also have 3 categories you can win for prizes (See Below). Check out everyones rigs, meet new people and see some you already know.

    FOOD
We will be providing lunch on site. Hotdogs, chips and sodas. All thanks to our good friend Mhiscox on this board. Thank you Mike!

Note: If you don't want a hotdog and prefer something else, this is a camp out and therefore come prepared with food. Also, bring water and all necessary emergency prep you may need.

SCHEDULE
Check in to arrive is 9am. We'll be starting the grilling around NOON and start into the raffle about about 2pm. All on Saturday. The rest of the time, you can drop off toys (if after the raffle, you won't get a chance to win anything), meander around and oogle the rigs and meet fellow off road enthusiasts from all over the www.

Sunday, those who've camped.. there may be a trail run up to Alamo Mountain. More information on this as it becomes available. The trail run will be a scenic and simple route. Nothing hardcore.

Vendors are welcome as long as they're not selling items. In other words, come, show up, pop open your camper, show people stuff, but don't setup a booth and start selling stuff. Remember, this event is about the kids.. not about unloading goods. Lets keep it that way. That and my permit doesn't allow folks to sell. Please respect this.

Laws & Safety
http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=1234.

Dogs are fine as long as they're on leash at all times and they're cool around people, kiddos and other dogs.

Another way to spread the word... i created a Facebook Event here:
https://www.facebook.com/#!/events/454528764598755/?fref=ts

If you have any questions feel free to contact me via PM or by Email. Both are listed under my username.

Hope to see everyone there,

On my calendar Dave!! Nice to mix up the venue too! Don't mind the drive north since it was south last year.

Sounds good Dave, I only have to tak off one day of work for this one!

I'm planning on camping :-)

(Bubba too)

I can't make the event due to the anticipation of my 2nd baby girl, she's due around Christmas. That being said, I'd love to donate some toys. Is anyone local to me (Escondido) going so some toys can hitch a ride?

Assume you mean 2012, not 2011. Great program for helping kids!

Ok, fresh back from the LA-Vegas race... getting everything rolling on this and the excitement is brewing!

I want to Publicly thank AJIK Overland Exchange, sponsor of this board for their check donation. Yoshi bought 20 toys with this donation! That's 20 children that would never have a gift otherwise! Thank you!

Looks like we'll have some great folks making it out this year. JK-Adventure will be on site with a few of their rigs and helping out all they can. Axial Racing will be on site and showing off some goodies as well. Scott Brady will be attending, hopefully with one of his very cool vehicles and talking adventure with all of you. Also, Mario from Adventure Trailers will be heading out as well. Ben from Outback Proven and Maxtrax will be in attendance and im trying let him release the Maxtrax Rally Fighter :D We'll have Pete Trasborg, associate editor from JP Magazine coming out with his Kaiser Jeep M715!

Also, Andrew Felix has agreed Weather permitting, along with his family will be doing movies again for the kids and the kids at heart. He is looking at projecting Madagascar 3 on the 60" inflatable screen. Bring your blanket, favorite chair and some popcorn! Should be blast.

We also should have our Vintage Honda Trail 90's on display for all to gawk at, filthy and fresh off the race course. If you haven't followed that adventure check the moto section on the portal.

There's a rumor we may have a Santa Claus this year! We'll have to wait and see :)

I've updated the vendor list as well.

Shaping up to be a fine event!!!

May pass on this after all.

240 miles round trip after driving over 1400 miles last week has my gas bill very large, especially after paying $5.98 at Panamint Springs.

I will, however, as I do every year, donate toys to Toys for Tots at the boxes we have here at work.

You're letting one tank of gas stand in your way? Come on Brent, that is not a good excuse and you know it!

PS - You should know better than to get gas in PV :D

1.5 tanks of gas and it's a very good excuse. Spent way too much lately and besides, I can't write my gas off as a business expense like some folks I know. ;) :flipoff2:

No worries - Toys for Tots will not suffer!

Hindsight I should have poured in the 10 gallons from my jerry cans like Dan did, but was just unsure of the rest of our needs and mine out a different route. PV was the only station on our route coming out of the race track down to the charcoal kilns. I doubt Furnace Creek would have been much better price wise and way out of the way.

That much driving so soon after the artroscopic surgery also in hindsight was not the best of ideas. Even taking it easy walking around on the trip, all the seat time to/from the bay area was a killer on the surgically repaired knee. Not kneeling down to set up the tent was interesting too!

Ok - if it'll make you feel any better, :princess: let me know this weekend that her office is being reconfigured and she's moving. Cabling is being dropped Saturday morning (while I'm on the golf course) and then we have the rest of the weekend to move all her furniture and files. Would have had to cancel for that regardless. #1 Rule of the household - KEEP the :princess: HAPPY!

It's ok Brent, i just like razzing you about Jean. Have a great weekend and thank you for donating at your office.

The rest of you, don't forget to dress warm! We'll be at 4500-5000 feet!... The daytime high is set to be in the 40's and the overnight low is in the 30's. Be prepared if you're camping and also, bring firewood for your campfire.

Very excited to get out for the weekend. I'll get to tow my buddy's little travel trailer up there which should make for a comfortable night. Can't wait to meet a bunch of giving people and see some cool vehicles.

Can't make it this year. :frown:
